The National Blood Transfusion Service has organised its first conference that brought together staff from the ten regions of the country as well as those of the central service. The theme of this first edition is "Stepping up the deployment of the NBTS in the regions, to intensify the mobilisation for ethical blood donation”. The four day conference that held from the 12th to the 15th of March 2024 was aimed at drawing a balance sheet of activities carried out in 2023 and plan those for 2024. It was presided at by the General Manager Professor Dora Mbanya, who during the opening ceremony remarked that despite the numerous challenges faced by the centre since its inception, it has made substantial strides. From 99.850 bags of blood in 2020, 140.000 in 2021, 147,034 in 2022, there is much progress in blood supply with regard to the annual need that stands at 400.000 bags. With the data for 2023 still to be consolidated, she was optimistic that it could only get better. She thanked the personnel of the regions for their efforts in representing the NBTS and making the centre known through their involvement in diverse activities and also praised the staff of the central services for their commitment to seeing the centre attain its goals. To mark the first day, the Deputy GM Mr. Emmanuel Maina Djoulde did presentations on the rules of ethics and administrative deontology for greater discipline in the healthcare system, the techniques and practice of administrative writing and the preparation of administrative memos. According to the programme of the conference, there would be plenary sessions consisting of groups of presentations from the central and devolved services.
