NBTS Staff Educate Population on Voluntary Blood Donation
As part of activities to mark the 20th edition of World Blood Day in Cameroon, the National Blood Transfusion Service banked on the sensitisation of the masses on the importance of donating blood. It is in this light that various teams comprising medical doctors, laboratory technicians, peer educators and communicators were sent out to churches, schools and markets to sensitize and share informative and educational flyers on blood donation. Teams were deployed to the Yaounde Our Lady of Victory Cathedral, Etoug-ebe Baptist Church and Presbyterian Church of Nsimeyong where members of the team were given the opportunity to address the Christian community on the dire issue of blood donation. A week preceding World blood donor day usually celebrated on 14 June and for days after, the NBTS sensitisation train went to the Yaounde Conference centre, the Program for the fight against malaria- PNLP, the Centre for the fight against HIV-AIDS and CENAME to name but these. Teams also visited university campuses like Yaounde I in Ngoa-ekele, Nkolbisson and Ekounou Catholic Universities amongst others. In all these locations, educative talks were followed by question and answer sessions that helped to enlighten the public further on particular worries especially in the blood transfusion chain.
